About SOBEK

SOBEK was founded in 2022 by Sophie Strøbek, a Danish designer with a degree in textile design, handicraft, and communication. She has completed internships at fashion designer Cecilie Bahnsen, bespoke tailor Hanne Kohlmets, and artist Nikoline Liv Andersen.

In her final year as a student, Sophie started a small production of unique upcycled wool vests from her home in Copenhagen. Her goal was to create versatile, sustainable garments that are at the absolute top level regarding quality, craftsmanship, and design. Even though the garments were only available via Instagram and a select number of design markets, Sophie’s unique take on upcycling quickly gained interest.

By creating bespoke garments out of vintage textiles, where each item tells a story of something else and more than just the latest trend, Sophie hopes to redefine the way we think about fashion. Where our wardrobe is not ever-changing but a persistent testament to a more sustainable way of life.

In May 2024, Sophie opened her own SOBEK shop in one of the charming little pavilions in Copenhagen’s iconic King’s Garden. Visitors are invited to see, feel, and try on all the garments in person—an opportunity to fully experience the textures, craftsmanship, and stories behind each piece.

In November 2024, Sophie was selected to participate as one of the New Talents at Laugenes Opvisning, an exclusive showcase dedicated to tailoring and craftsmanship, held under the patronage of Princess Benedikte of Denmark. The event brings together Denmark’s most skilled tailors, designers, and artisans, and Sophie’s participation marked a significant recognition of her dedication to quality, tradition, and sustainable design.

Through SOBEK, Sophie continues to explore how garments can carry meaning, tell stories, and contribute to a more thoughtful future of fashion.
